INDEPENDENCE BLUE CROSS

Lights, Camera, Say the Words! Do the Stuff!

By the time I got to Independence Blue Cross (IBC), video technology had gotten to the point when it was extremely cost effective for companies to produce their own videos and use them to enhance their internal communications. Luckily for IBC, I had a film/video production background. It was a great rejuvenation to be producing videos once again. As you'll see, I did a lot of creative stuff considering I worked for a health insurance company.

Actuaries - Debunking the Myths

Hard to believe, but the life of an actuary isn't that interesting. So when the Actuarial Department of IBC wanted me to create a video that debunked some of the "myths associated with them, I wrote and produced this comical piece.

Spirit of 75th - John Clayton and Michele Hardy

During its 75th anniversary, leadership at IBC wanted a series of videos that showed the pride in tradition of working for the company. I interviewed long-tenured employees, who had interesting stories to tell about their time with IBC. I contacted this pair - brother and sister John Clayton and Michele Hardy - and during my preliminary interview, they hysterically went back and forth with each other. I knew... this was the video. So when we were ready, I pressed 'Record' and let them do their thing.

IBC CEO United Way Message

As stated above, the annual United Way campaign at IBC is a big deal. So much so that the CEO likes to give a message to employees to emphasize the importance of donating. I wrote the script for this video and coordinated the casting (video was shot and edited by the Creative Services Department).

Tale of Health Management and the Strategy Office's BPI

The subject: Business process improvement. It sounds exciting, but it's actually not. In a small nutshell, IBC's Strategy Office helped the Health Management Department streamline some of their processes. The problem: Make an interesting video about a boring topic. My solution: Silent movie! (I'm a big Charlie Chaplin fan)

United Way Agency Profile - Philadelphia YouthBuild Charter School

I hate to sound like a broken record, but again, the United Way campaign was a big deal at IBC. To help make their donations more real, I made a series of videos profiling different agencies benefited by the United Way.

Blue Core: Communicating with Customers

Blue Core was a major system migration at IBC. There was a lot of technical information, but not much that was 'sexy' to the average employee. Once again, I was asked to make the topic interesting. So I channeled my inner TMZ. This video was about the testing phase

Champions for Change - Heather Falck/Back On My Feet

At IBC, the annual United Way campaign is a huge deal. As a member of the United Way Committee (leading the communications for the campaign), I wanted to make the United Way agencies 'real' for our employees. Here I produced a porfile of an employee who volunteered for Back On My Feet.

Health Care Reform Training

Naturally, Health Care Reform was a big deal at IBC. Training was developed to help ensure that employees understood the impact to our business and the industry. In this video, I wanted to convey the importance of taking the training by telling the story of an employee who didn't.

Walk the Talk - Finding Ways to Exercise at Work

IBC wanted to emphasize to its employees the importance of staying healthy. Walk the Talk put teams of employees in a friendly competition to meet certain health metrics. During the campaign, we wanted to keep the message of healthy living visible with a series of Walk the Talk health and fitness videos starring the participants. In this video, one employee provides advice on staying active at work.

On the Job With... Shawnee Brown

To recognize the work of employees of various departments, we did a series of videos that took us "on the job" with an employee. For this one, we profiled Social Media Manager Shawnee Brown.

IBC Step Out Team Promo

Different departments of IBC put together teams to walk in the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes. They wanted to promote their efforts internally to help raise money for the event. I worked with them to produce this music video.

Jeremy and His Awesome iPhone App

One of the IBC employees in Creative Services created his own iPhone game. We thought this was a great way to focus on an employee's life outside of work, so I produced this video story about the app and its development.
